About this Opportunity
Volunteer Leaders (VLs) are an integral part of the Boston Cares experience. The quantity and diversity of projects on our Calendar is possible with the support of staff at our nonprofit partners and our Volunteer Leaders. Serving as liasons between volunteers, our nonprift partners, and Boston Cares' staff, Volunteer Leaders ensure the projects they lead are a productive, fulfilling experience for everyone taking the time to serve.
To get started as Volunteer Leader, you must...
- Be an active Boston Cares volunteer
- Be least 18 years old
- Attend at least 3 projects listed on our Calendar (not including a New Volunteer Orientation)
- Demontrate consistent attendance through your Boston Cares volunteer record
- Attend a Volunteer Leader training
Why should you become a Volunteer Leader (VL)?
- Early access to sign up for volunteer opportunites as our Calendar is updated quartly!
- Deeper connections with your fellow volunteers!
- Additional engagement with nonprofit partners and their daily operations!
- Build your resume through guiding volunteer opportunites, developing skills such as communication, public speaking, leadership, problem solving, and more!
All new Volunteer Leaders are required to attend a virtual, 1-hour training session. Each Volunteer Leader training session covers commitment expectations, a reminder of Boston Cares' policies, and the responsibilites of the VL role before, during, and after a volunteer opportunity. After the training, you will have access to all of the projects listed on our Calendar, so you can decide which project(s) you would like to start with as a VL and set your own schedule!
All of our Volunteer Leader trainings are hosted virtually via zoom. Once you sign up for the training that suits your schedule, the meeting link will be sent to the email address listed on your Boston Cares account a couple hours ahead of the training start time.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: At Boston Cares, we recognize that diversity, equity, and inclusion are fundamental values that guide our mission and work. Boston Cares is committed to creating a community where everyone is valued, respected, and can come and participate as their authentic selves. We expect that all volunteers and partners join us in promoting a safe and supportive space for everyone.
