About this Opportunity

Project Description: Food Bank For New York City is partnering with NBC and Stop & Shop for the Feeding Our Families food drive on Saturday, April 25th. Non-perishable and financial donations will be collected at nearly 200 Stop & Shop locations for eight regional Feeding America food banks, including Food Bank For NYC. The 2026 campaign goal is to deliver one million meals for families in need.

We are looking for volunteers to help collect donations at the Stop & Shop located at 74-17 Grand Ave, Maspeth, NY 11378. Volunteers will engage with shoppers, share information about Food Bank’s work and help to encourage and collect donations.

Things to Consider:

  • There will not be storage available for personal belongings. We recommend traveling light and leaving valuables at home.

  • We recommend bringing a reusable water bottle and small snack.

  • Volunteers should be comfortable engaging with customers to encourgage donations and speaking about Food Bank’s work. Basic talking points will be provided.

  • Table and chairs will be provided, but volunteers may be asked to stand for periods of time.

  • All volunteers must agree to our Volunteer Waiver and Photo Release Waiver in order to participate.
  • Please only register for this opportunity if you are sure you can attend for the full shift duration. If anything changes with your availability, please cancel your registration on the Volunteer Portal at least 24 hours in advance.
  • See here for our Volunteer Guidelines.

Dress Code:

  • Volunteers are expected to present a neat appearance and dress according to the requirements of the volunteer shift.

  • If you have any Food Bank branded attire, please wear it!

  • We ask that volunteers do not wear revealing attire such as muscle shirts, crop tops, “short shorts” or see-through clothing.

  • Some standing may be required, so we recommend wearing comfortable footwear.

  • We recommend dressing in layers as the store may be cool inside.

  • Our staff reserves the right to turn away or reassign volunteers not dressed appropriately for their shift.

    Age Requirements:

  • Volunteers must be at least 14 years old to participate.
  • All volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a chaperone aged 21 or older.
  • All volunteers under the age of 18 must have our Volunteer Waiver and Photo Release Waiver complete by a parent/legal guardian in advance of their volunteer shift.
  • All volunteers under the age of 18 should contact [email protected] at least 3 business days in advance of their first shift to confirm they have met our chaperone and waiver requirements.
  • Please note that our capacity to accommodate youth volunteers is subject to availability.
