About this Opportunity

The Summer Reading Program uses a variety of creative formats including arts and crafts, music, theatre, technology, and multimedia to help kids develop and strengthen their love of reading and writing. The Summer Reading Assistant will assist the Children's Librarian in organizing and monitoring the Summer Reading Program's daily activities.

Tasks include:

  • setting up room/activities
  • preparing materials for use
  • helping to clean up after the activity
  • assisting children during an activity
  • providing additional supervision and guidance.

Additinally, volunteers are needed to distribute meals and help manage the daily operation of the lunch program.

Tasks include:

  • Conduct a daily count of lunches and track quantities served
  • Conduct preliminary food safety assessment to help ensure items are served at proper temperature
  • Help maintain an orderly distribution of items
  • Manage clean-up and disposal of all items​


SKILLS REQUIRED

  • 14 years old and up
  • Available Monday through Fridays between 10:00am - 4:30pm
    • Exact times depend on availability.  However, individuals should be available between 12:30pm - 2:00pm to assist with summer meals distribution 
  • Comfortable working with children and teens.
  • Patient, friendly, and diligent
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must demonstrate appropriate behavior and judgment when working with children
  • Previous library experience is helpful but not required


ADDITIONAL NOTES

This is an in-person project.  Individuals, 18 and older are subject to an investigative background check that may be used when considering volunteers.
