HICAP Volunteer

HICAP (Health Insurance Counseling & Advocacy Program) is part of a nationwide network of State Health Insurance Program (S.H.I.P.) dedicated to helping Medicare beneficiaries make educated decisions about their individual health care needs.  We provide free, unbiased and confidential counseling and advocacy services regarding your Medicare.  

HICAP is under the umbrella of Legal Services of Northern California (LSNC) and is staffed by volunteers who are extensively trained in Medicare policy.

We train our volunteers extensively on Medicare policy so they can assist our clients in making informed decisions about their Medicare benefits and related options.  As a volunteer you may be: 1) meeting with clients to review the Medicare process, helping with billing issues, informing folks of financial assistance to pay for their benefits 2) working at an outreach event such as a health fair educating the community about our services, 3) presenting information at public gatherings, 4) helping out in our office answering phones or preparing information for the community; 5) recruiting new volunteers and other opportunities.
