Volunteer Assistance | 5K for Palestine/Sudan | Springfield VA | April 2026

Islamic Relief USA, in collaboration with Dar Al‑Hijrah (DAH), East African Links (EAL), Watan Worldwide (WW) is hosting a 5K walk/run to support IRUSA efforts for Palestine and Sudan. We are seeking dedicated volunteers to help make this event a success.
 
WHEN:
Sunday, April 12

EVENT TIME:
9:00 AM – 3:00 PM EST
(Race begins at 11:00 AM)
 
WHERE:
Lake Accotink Park, McLaren‑Sargent Shelter
7500 Accotink Park Road
Springfield, VA 22150
 
VOLUNTEER ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Volunteers will be assigned to one or more of the following roles based on interest and availability:

• Shelter Set‑Up Team

  • Set up IRUSA banner and backdrop

  • Place plastic covers on benches

  • Set up and replace trash bags as needed

• Trail Set‑Up & Hydration Team

  • Set up course signage and fun‑fact trail flags

  • Inflate start/finish arch

  • Set up the hydration and snack station

  • Offer water and snacks to race participants

• Registration Table & Race Bib Distribution

  • Check in participants

  • Distribute race bibs and t‑shirts

  • Assist with waivers

  • Encourage and assist with donations

• Event Takedown & Clean‑Up Team

  • Break down tables, banners, and decorations

  • Collect remaining supplies

  • Ensure the shelter and surrounding park areas are fully cleaned

  • Help return the park to its original condition

REQUIREMENTS:

• Minimum age: 18+

• Comfortable walking shoes recommended

• Willingness to work outdoors

OTHER RECOMMENDATIONS:
