About this Opportunity

The invasive plant Scotch broom is a growing problem at the Sandy River Delta. It takes, space, nutrients and water needed by native plants and trees. Scotch broom was initially brought to the Northwest to stabilize shorelines, so it thrives in the sandy soils of the Delta. We will use mechanical means to remove select patches of Scotch broom using a special tool called a Weed Wrench. It easily wrenches out the plant and roots, while not wrenching our backs! Other volunteers might work ahead of the weed wrench, topping off taller Scotch broom plants to make full removal easier. Then, we will pile up the Scotch broom to let it dry up and die. Over time, these areas will be replanted with native plants and trees.
