About this Opportunity

Please only sign up for one shift. Our Volunteer Team will then contact you to help get you officially scheduled. Please do not come to the shelter until you have been contacted by the foster team.

The SPCA of Texas is searching for Foster Heroes who are ready to open their hearts and homes to animals in need. By becoming a Foster Hero, you'll provide one animal with a nurturing, loving environment while another takes their place at the shelter.

We offer a variety of foster opportunities to fit any lifestyle, and we'll provide everything you need—all you need to bring is love! The more animals fostered, the more lives saved!

Visit www.spca.org/foster to fill out an application, or www.spca.org/fosterme to see animals in need.

We offer three types of foster programs:

  • Adoption Ambassador

    • Open your home to adoptable animals and help them find forever homes.
    • Send us great photos and bios for online profiles.
    • Promote animals online, around town, and at adoption events.
    • Communicate with potential adopters to find the perfect match.
    • Average foster time: 2-3 weeks.
    • Benefits include better matches, more space in the shelter, and a rewarding experience for all involved.
  • Trust Building & Socialization Foster

    • Provide a safe, loving environment for animals with difficult pasts to regain trust in people.
    • Typically animals from hoarding, neglect, cruelty cases, or those needing obedience work.
    • Benefits include offering a second chance to animals, insight into their true behavior, and preparing them for adoption.
  • Healing & Comfort Foster

    • Provide loving care and attention for animals needing extra support.
    • Includes mother and litter, kittens/puppies, orphaned babies, animals recovering from sickness or surgery, and fospice care for elderly or terminal animals.
    • Benefits include ensuring comfort during recovery, insight into the animal's personality, and a rewarding experience for foster parents.
