About this Opportunity
Animal care volunteers provide daily care to our patients and non-releasable permanent resident animals under the guidance of our Certified Wildlife Rehabilitator and members of our Board.
The general responsibilities of Animal Care Assistants may include:
- Cleaning indoor and outdoor enclosures, washing dishes or loading/unloading dishwasher, and laundry.
- Ensuring cages and enclosures remain safe for patients and residents
- Preparing daily diets; both solid and formula.
- Hand feeding infant and juvenile patients.
- Providing enrichment activities to patients and permanent residents.
- Assisting with the patient intakes.
- Preparing activities for our public outreach programs (after the animal care is completed)
Requirements for all volunteers at Acorn Acres:
- Must be at least 25 years of age and possess at least a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have reliable transportation and be lawfully licensed to operate.
- Must commit to schedule of at least 4 hours, same day, same shift, weekly for a minimum of 6 months.
- Must be willing to work in all conditions, including outdoors. Must be able to stand for your entire shift.
- Must be prompt and dress appropriately for working conditions.
- Must be able to work independently.
- Must sign a volunteer agreement, waiver of liability, and complete a (free) state background check.
