Shelter Heroes (SH) Service Associate (SA)
Assist Red Cross in delivering mission by alleviating human suffering caused by disasters.
This position supports the RegionalDisaster Cycle Services (DCS) department. The Sheltering (SH) Service Associate(SA) is a temporary position assigned to work in person in a Red Cross shelterbefore, during and/or after a disaster event.
Key Responsibilities
- Sheltering Service Associatescomplete tasks necessary for shelter operations and interacts with clients toensure their needs are met.
- Sheltering Service Associates support theday-to-day activities within a shelter, which can include working in reception,registration, feeding, dormitory, information or other areas within a shelter.
- Communicate to Team Leader about availability and readiness on a regular basis throughout hurricane season.
Qualifications
Required:Willing and able to volunteer in person in a disaster shelter before, duringand/or after a disaster event. Abilityto work in a continuously changing environment in which work priorities maychange frequently. Comfortable interacting with people from various diversebackground whose lives have been disrupted and many are presenting immediateneeds.- Comfortable working in a team environment as a frontline worker underthe direction of a supervisor Valid Drivers License (required for Divisional andNational Deployments) Minimum 18 years of age.
- Available to sign up for shifts on consecutive days (shifts may be 4, 8or 12 hours long)
- Willing to complete 3.5 hours of virtual self-paced trainingrequired for position.
- Ability to read,write, and follow verbal and written instructions in English.
- Willingness to comply with current publichealth and Red Cross policies Refer to the Physical Capacity Grid for physicaland emotional requirements.
