About this Opportunity

Volunteer Job Description:

Facilitator Gifts of Hope Workshops

Gems of Hope Inc.is a nonprofit organization that offers gifts of jewelry mounted on inspirational cards to cancer patients. The patients are invited, along with family and friends, to attend workshops to create these works of art for others.

G-Force, is what we call the volunteer force behind all the good work of Gems of Hope. Do you want to make a difference in the lives of cancer patients and their families? Every person counts, and at Gems of Hope you can make a difference in the lives of many by providing hope to those dealing with cancer in ourcommunity.

At the core of our programs is the Gifts of Hope distribution. In our workshops volunteers handcraft cards with inspirational sayings or create earrings or make bookmarks, which later on will be mounted to the cards. Next to a serenity circle or a stone these gifts are distributed in oncology clinics and hospitals throughout the Corridor.

Gems of Hope volunteers help provide over 750gifts of hope each month to cancer patientsin the Corridor!

Gems also reaches youth through it's What About Us? kids camp for kids learning to deal with a cancer diagnosis in their family. Gems supports continuing education for high school seniors through the "Gifts of Education" scholarship opportunity with up to ten $1000.00 scholarship awarded annually. The Pages for Hope Library program supports local schools by supplying cancer related resources for a districts various libraries. Additionally, a web portal for teens called cancerreallysucks.org is a forum to find ways to share feelings that cancer patients and families go through.
