Literacy Council Seeks Volunteer Tutors

Are you ready to make a meaningful difference in someones life?

The Literacy Council of Kingsport is seeking compassionate and dedicated volunteers to serve as ESL (English as a Second Language) Tutors and Adult Basic Education (ABE) Tutors for adults in our community.

Our tutors help adult learners improve their English language skills or gain basic literacy and math skills needed for everyday life, employment, and independence. With over 10 ESL students and numerous ABE students currently waiting for tutors, your time and effort could have a life-changing impact.

What Youll Do as a Tutor:

Work one-on-one with an adult learner to build skills in reading, writing, speaking, or math.
Use a structured, pre-designed curriculum (no lesson planning required).
Conduct sessions in-person or via Google Meet, depending on your preference.

Time Commitment:

Sessions are 1.5 hours long and can be held once or twice a week.
Flexible schedules, with options to tutor during the day or evening.

Qualifications:

No prior teaching experience or second language skills are requiredjust proficiency in English and a passion for helping others succeed.
Training will be provided to prepare you for your tutoring journey.

Training and Orientation:

We can offer 1-on-1 tutor training at a time that is convenient for you! Our next group ESL Tutor training will take place on February 21st 10:00 am to 12:00 noon. Registration is required.

ABE tutor training is completed 1-on-1. Scheduling is flexible!
