About this Opportunity
Hospice care is centered on comfort, dignity, and quality of life-for both patients and their families. Volunteers are an essential part of this care, offering companionship, conversation, reading, music, or simply a calming presence. These meaningful moments help ease loneliness, reduce anxiety, and bring comfort during one of life’s most vulnerable times. Autumn Hospice is a locally owned organization dedicated to providing exceptional end-of-life care. Our compassionate, interdisciplinary team-including physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, home health aides, bereavement coordinators, and volunteers-works together to support patients and families physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Proudly serving more than 80 communities across Massachusetts, we honor each individual with dignity while adapting care to reflect personal goals, values, and changing needs. Rooted in relationship-centered care, we believe every journey deserves empathy, respect, and clinical excellence. By listening deeply and responding with compassion, we foster comfort, peace, and a sense of belonging.
Volunteers play a vital role in our mission and may serve in a variety of meaningful ways, including:
Patient & Family Support Provide companionship, emotional support, and respite for caregivers through friendly visits and a listening ear.
Vigil Support Sit bedside with patients in their final days-especially those without loved ones nearby-ensuring no one is alone.
Office & Administrative Support Assist behind the scenes with answering phones, assembling packets, preparing mailings, and general office tasks.
Marketing & Communications Help share our mission through newsletters, flyers, social media content, website updates, and creative design projects.
Veteran Connections Veterans support fellow veterans through our We Honor Veterans program by visiting patients, participating in Veterans’ Coffee Socials, and assisting with ceremonial pinings and special events.
Specialty Services Share licensed or certified skills such as Reiki, massage therapy, acupuncture, music therapy, or pet therapy to bring comfort and enrichment to patients and families. Many of our volunteers say the emotional and spiritual rewards far exceed the time they give-and describe this work as one of the most meaningful experiences of their lives.
If you are compassionate, dependable, and looking for a deeply meaningful way to serve others, we would love to welcome you to our team.
