About this Opportunity
Make a difference during times of need! Disasters are unpredictable, which is why having a trained and ready volunteer workforce is so important. By getting trained now, you can provide in-person support in a Red Cross shelter before, during, and after a disaster event. As a Shelter Service Associate, you’ll help ensure those affected have a safe place to stay and the support they need. Your responsibilities may include welcoming and registering clients, managing sleeping arrangements, assisting with meal distribution, providing updates and assistance, and handling supplies. This role requires comfort working with diverse populations under stressful conditions. A valid driver’s license is also needed for divisional and national deployments. The hours are long and may include consecutive 8-12 hours shifts. For larger-scale disaster deployments, a commitment of 10 to 14 days is required. Getting started is easy. Simply apply online at redcross.org/volunteer - the application takes less than ten minutes. After your application and background check are complete, we’ll schedule a quick screening call to find the best fit for you. From there, we’ll provide all the training you need so you feel confident and supported in your role.
