About this Opportunity
Help deliver free groceries to low in-oncome older adults with Community Supplemental Food Program (CSFP)! We partner with the Greater Boston Food Bank, which delivers pre-packed 30 lb. boxes plus fresh veg, fruit, and cheese to the Arts at the Armory in Somerville. Logistics volunteers unload pallets, pack vegetables, and assist with loading boxes into drivers' vehicles. From there, delivery drivers (and sometimes runners) use a personal car to deliver them to older adults on a route. We especially need drivers!!!The event takes place on the 1st Tuesday of each month, starting between 8 am and 9 am, and the time commitment is about 2.5 hours. We serve Somerville, and Cambridge, MA. If you're looking for a similar opportunity close to home, use this search tool to find an agency serving your city or town. https://www.massmmp.org/asap-search/.The grocery boxes we handle in this program weigh about 30 lbs! It may not be a suitable role for people with a history of back pain or restrictions on lifting. But it can be a fun and rewarding workout!
