If so, volunteering at the Christ Child Society’s Opportunity Shop in the heart of Georgetown may appeal to you.The Opportunity Shop sells on a consignment basis antique furniture, paintings, china and ceramics, sterling silver and silver plate, crystal and glassware, jewelry and more. A portion of the sales of these goods is returned to the consignor, and a portion goes to the Christ Child Society, to fund its charitable programs.The Opportunity Shop is a retail enterprise with a store located at 1427 Wisconsin Avenue NW, and an online shop at www.opshopdc.com. There are a variety of volunteer opportunities at the Opportunity Shop. This includes greeting retail customers and ensuring that each has an excellent shopping experience, helping to make sure that merchandise is presented in an attractive and appealing way, photographing new inventory so that it can be offered for sale on our online store, and more, depending on the interested volunteer’s skillset. The shop is open Wednesday through Saturday from Noon to 5pm, and Sunday from Noon to 4pm. Volunteers contribute four hours per daily shift.The Christ Child Society was founded in 1887 to serve the impoverished in our nation’s capital, especially children. The Beloved Babies Layette program, the Student Success program and the Girls on the Rise program provide safety-nets and open doors for those who lack advantages in the Washington, DC area.
