About this Opportunity

It is our belief here at Hospice of the Western Reserve, that no one should have to die alone...compassionate volunteers needed to sit with dying patients as they experience their final hours. Volunteers needed from 8am till 8pm in 2-4 hour shifts. The patient is likely to not be responsive and all you need to do is perhaps hold a hand, speak softly, perhaps sing quietly or simply to provide presence. Provide comfort and presence for the patient and or their family members.

Volunteers are usually called in during the last 72 hours for that patient. Sixteen hours of volunteer education required plus 2 part TB test and criminal background check (paid for by agency). Available for patients all over our service area (From Ashtabula(east)county to Sandusky(west) and past Summit county (south).

Volunteers have the right to reject any assignment for any reason with no judgment. Volunteers get to select how far they are willing to travel and in what settings they are willing to work (some experience a preference for working only in a hospital/assisted living setting while others prefer to work in private residences where the patient lives or perhaps in the in patient units.
