About & Impact:
The nonprofit Norwood Life Society Thrift Shop has been a part of the fabric of the Norwood Park community for over 25 years. People know our shop as a place to get great bargains and strike up new friendships. Our volunteers work selflessly to help generate as much revenue as possible with proceeds from the sale of donations supporting the very best in senior services and enhancing the independence and well-being of older adults.
Hours of Operation: Open every day except Sunday, 10 AM to 3 PM. Open until 7 PM on Thursdays.
Shifts are 10 AM to 1 PM and 12 PM to 3 PM M, T, W, F, & S. Thursdays 10 AM to 1 PM, 12 PM to 3 PM, 3 PM to 5 PM and 5 PM to 7 PM.
Note: availability to volunteer on certain days or hours may vary based on current need.
Responsibilities and Expectations:

Unload, sort, and inventory donated items.

Discard unusable items and bag unsalable items for the Salvation Army.

Hang, re-hang and display items in store.

Light sweeping and dusting as needed.

Respond to routine customer inquiries.

Cashier as requested.

Maintain a positive and respectful attitude.

Maintain and promote positive internal and external relationships with clients, staff and fellow volunteers.

Understand and respect the boundaries of your assigned position; and perform your duties within those boundaries.

Communicate regularly with the Director of Volunteer Services and Thrift Shop Manager.

Demonstrate reliability arriving and leaving as instructed and taking breaks at expected time frames.

Contact the Director of Volunteer Services if unable to work scheduled time.

Sign in and sign out.

Qualifications:

Must be 16 years or older.

Must be physically able to stand and lift donated goods.

Must support the goal of Norwood Life Society of providing the very best in senior services and enhancing the independence and well-being of older adults.

Customer service skills.

Ability to commit to a regularly scheduled shift.
