About this Opportunity
This role is essential to our operations as clothing is our biggest department in the shop - the most donated and purchased. What are your main roles:
Inspect apparel, shoes and/or accessories for condition and quality. (potential outdoor workspace). Stock items ready for sale to the sales floor. Maintain the visual standards and cleanliness of the sales floor. Help to organize and cleanup work stations at the end of a shift.
Scheduling is flexible: We recommend starting out with one 2-3 hour shift per week.
The Mercer Island Thrift Shop is a nonprofit business that values a culture of community involvement, solid employee development, and reducing our community footprint on the planet through resale; the best form of recycling. As a bustling group of 65 volunteers, management team and work study students, we are proud that we provide the major source of funding for Mercer Island Youth & Family Services (MIYFS).
If you’re looking for a positive place to learn and grow, this position is a great foot in the door to a nonprofit mission that touches every generation in our community. You can learn more about the thrift shop and MIYFS at www.mercerislandthrift.org/about.
We provide hands-on training and a reference handbook to help you get started. You can use our online app to schedule your shifts and time away or we can manage your specified times for you. MITS is a fun, fast paced environment with a diverse work force from youth to seniors. Volunteer benefits include progressive discounts for the number of hours you work, job training, work references, volunteer recognition events, free coffee, tea, soda and a snack bar.
