About this Opportunity
Be an advocate for residents in long-term care facilities throughout the state. You can amplify their voices to ensure they receive appropriate care, have a fulfilling lifestyle, and are treated with dignity. The mission of Oregon’s Long-Term Care Ombudsman (LTCO) program is to protect individual rights, enhance quality of life, improve care, and promote dignity for residents living in long-term care facilities. Many residents have no one to watch out for them or speak up when things go wrong; call lights go unanswered, meals arrive cold, or medications are given incorrectly. LTCO Certified Ombudsman volunteers inform the resident of their rights, and then act upon their decision, resolving it in whatever way necessary. The presence and advocacy of LTCO Certified Ombudsman volunteers strengthens each individual resident’s choice, rights, and quality of life. Flexible scheduling of 16-20 hours per month. Please consider making at least a one-year commitment. Approximately 24 hours of initial concentrated training, then ongoing support and education provided as needed.
