About this Opportunity
Celebrate Juneteenth with AARP Michigan as we embark on a powerful and educational journey through Ann Arbor to honor the city’s role in the Underground Railroad. This guided bus tour will explore the hidden history of freedom seekers who traveled through our community in pursuit of liberation, justice, and a better future.
Led by knowledgeable local historians, this immersive experience will highlight key sites tied to Ann Arbor’s abolitionist legacy. Along the way, we will reflect on the resilience, courage, and collective resistance that defined the fight for freedom—and how those stories continue to inspire progress today.
Accessibility Information:
This tour is designed to be low-impact and accessible for older adults and individuals with limited mobility. The longest walk during the tour is approximately five minutes through Highland Cemetery, where we will visit the Civil War memorial and honor African American soldiers who served in the Union Army.
We are pleased to offer transportation on a 56-passenger coach bus that is ADA accessible. Please note the following important accessibility guidelines:
- The bus can accommodate up to 2 manual wheelchairs.
- Each wheelchair space will occupy 4 regular seats, limiting total capacity.
- Electric wheelchairs are not permitted due to weight limitations on the lift. Manual wheelchairs only.
Come join us in walking through history—literally and figuratively—as we commemorate Juneteenth by connecting with the legacy of those who paved the way for freedom.
