Volunteers Needed for the Thresholds and Decision-Making Program

Volunteers are needed for the Thresholds and Decision-Making Program, a 12-week program at the Valley Street Jail in Manchester. Participants in the program meet weekly for training in a group session. Volunteers then follow up on the material covered in the group session to review and reinforce what was covered. Volunteers work one-on-one with an assigned participant for the entire 12 weeks. Volunteers are trained and supported by the AmeriCorps RSVP Manager and the Volunteer Coordinator.

This program teaches critical thinking and decision making in a 5-step process: 1. Identify the situation, 2. Know what you want, 3. Expand the possibilities, 4. Evaluate, 5. Decide and act. Participants learn to choose to act after analyzing the situation instead of acting impulsively. The inmates in this program are on the Threshold of being released from jail and are eager to learn how to make better Decisions to get a fresh start on life and become better citizens.

The time commitment is one hour per week during the 12-week program. Background checks are required for volunteers.
