About this Opportunity
Bilingual Learning Center (BLC) is a nonprofit-based community organization located in south Minneapolis that is uniquely designed to meet the needs of students and parents alike through before and after school programming, serving all students in Pre-K through 5th grade. BLC is a fully bilingual (English-Spanish) enrichment program that is designed to foster a welcoming, multicultural, nurturing and fun environment, promoting a love for languages, cultural experiences, successful academics and leadership opportunities for our students.
We are seeking volunteers for our before and after school programs to serve as:
- Program Assistants
- Help managing groups of students during indoor and outdoor recreation, with art projects, by reading aloud to young students, and more
- Tutors *starting in October
- One-on-one tutoring and/or homework help in reading/writing or math in English or Spanish
Expectations of All BLC Volunteers:
- Experience in working with youth K-5th grade
- At least a conversational level of Spanish is a plus
- Regular, consistent and punctual attendance
- Demonstrated attention to detail
- Reinforce positive behavior, promote respect, and encourage socialization and good communication
Tutors:
- Demonstrate expertise in math, Spanish, and/or English
- Background in education or related (preferred)
- Responsible and respectful to students and staff
- Flexible in accommodating the needs of each student as recommended by their parents/guardians and classroom teachers
