About this Opportunity

Role Overview:

As a Front Desk volunteer, you be responsible for carrying out light administrative duties and greeting visitors all while providing a warm, welcoming first impression. This role contributes to the first impression of Valley Outreach and should exemplify a commitment to our values of equity and inclusion. No experience is necessary and fluency in Spanish or Karen languages is a plus.

Volunteer Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Greet Valley Outreach volunteers and visitors and make them feel welcome. You may be the first person someone meets here!
  • Connect them with the correct person or redirect them as needed. Some examples include.
  • Welcoming volunteers and directing new volunteers to the Volunteer Manager.
  • Directing food and clothing donations around the back to the donation dock.
  • Directing clients or shoppers to the StyleXchange entrance.
  • Directing clients to the Food Shelf entrance.
  • Greet donors with cash/check donations and find a staff member to receive it.
  • Answer phones and direct incoming calls to the correct staff person (please note: our automated phone system should help route most calls.)
  • Assist with special projects that can be completed at the front desk (e.g., stuffing envelopes for mailings).

Volunteer Requirements and Expectations:

  • Customer service oriented friendly, welcoming and non-judgmental
  • Be punctual for your shift.
  • Follow Valley Outreach Standard of Appearance guidelines.
  • Respect for client confidentiality, consistent with treating clients with dignity and respect.
  • A commitment to racial equity and social justice and a willingness to learn and be curious.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Willing and able to learn required computer applications (e.g., appointment scheduling) and phone system.
  • Organized, reliable, and accountable
  • Ability to work independently and respect client confidentiality.
  • Training will be provided by staff.

Physical requirements:

  • This is primarily a seated, desk position.

Time Commitment:6 months minimum

Available Shifts:

  • Tuesday/Thursday 9 a.m. to noon, noon to 2pm, to 5pm.
  • Monday/Friday: 9 a.m. to noon and noon to 2pm.
