About this Opportunity

Canine Inspired Change (CIC) is looking to expand our board of directors. We value each and every board member - the dedication to supporting our mission and the individual skill set each of them bring to our organization. We are currently prioritizing BIPOC applicants toprovide better representation on our board.

CIC serves diverse communities throughout the Twin Cities, and believes that the young people we serve should see themselves in our board, staff, and volunteer teams.

Canine Inspired Change is a nonprofit organization dedicated to giving vulnerable youth the social-emotional tools they need to be active participants in their schools and their communities. Our work helps these remarkable young people transcend trauma, social struggles and isolation by sparking meaningful connections with dogs, volunteers and each other.

We harness the healing power of dogs to break down barriers and spark powerful connectionsempowering youth who either have socially isolating conditions or have experienced trauma.

Our specially designed programs provide opportunities for youth to learn social-emotional behaviors that can help them not just survivebut thrivein school and later in life.

Canine Inspired Change

Board Member Job Description

Provide governance to the organization, represent it to the community, help build and provide resources to the organization, and accept the ultimate legal authority for it.

  • Attend scheduled board and committee meetings as stated in CICs bylaws
  • Review organizational mission statement and refine it when appropriate
  • Evaluate the performance of the executive director
  • Ensure effective organizational planning
  • * Oversee and review written plans that outline CICs long-term goals

    * Conduct periodic assessments of CICs operating environment

    * Balance planning and action

  • Determine and monitor the organizations programs and services
  • * Consider needs of participants in review of CICs programs and services

    * Review and approve all program changes

    * Participate in CICs programs and events

  • Ensure adequate resources
  • * Contribute annually

    * Participate in site visits and fundraising calls as needed

    * Review fundraising strategy

  • Manage resources effectively
  • * Approve annual budget

    * Review financial statements

    * Require and review independent annual audit and required filings

  • Communicate the role and activities of CIC and promote the organizations publicpresence
  • * Represent the organization in the community

    * Assist in the development and management of working relationships with other organizations and individuals

  • Selection of board officers
  • Participate in assessment of the boards own performance
  • Select an executive director when a vacancy occurs
