5T: Camp Hosts, Mammoth & Mono Lake Ranger Districts

Located in California's beautiful Eastern Sierra, the Inyo National Forest offers clean air, crystal blue skies, mountain lakes and streams, challenging trails, high mountain peaks, and beautiful views. The Inyo National Forest extends 165 miles near the California and Nevada border.  With over two million acres, the Inyo National Forest is home to many natural wonders including Mt. Whitney, Mono Lake, Mammoth Lakes Basin, and the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest.  Recreational opportunities include camping, picnicking, hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, equestrian use, and off-highway vehicle use.  The general host season is May - mid-September but dates are somewhat flexible.

The Inyo National Forest is seeking campground hosts who can represent the Forest Service (USFS) in a professional and courteous manner.  Hosts are often the first Forest Service representative that guests will encounter and must be able to greet incoming campers, provide general visitor information, and inform campers of rules and regulations.  They should interact regularly with the public during the day and make full rounds through the campground in both the morning and evening.  Hosts are not expected to interact with the public after daylight hours.  Hosts must set a positive camping example by maintaining a neat, clean and organized campsite area.

Campground hosts are responsible for assisting the Forest Service with the maintenance of campground restrooms and campground facilities.  Maintenance responsibilities include, but are not limited to, cleaning restrooms, picking up trash in the campground and fire rings, raking flammable materials away from fire rings, and maintaining/painting/posting signs and other infrastructure.  Hosts perform daily responsibilities independently without direct supervision.  They host in cooperation with the Forest Service and its employees, and inform USFS staff of any problems or issues that may occur at the campground.  Hosts are not responsible for the enforcement of rules and regulations and in an emergency, should call 911.  If there is a non-emergency that requires Forest Service assistance, hosts should contact Inyo National Forest dispatch.

The Forest Service will provide the host with a partial uniform.  They will have a host site within the campground for their own RV.  There are no hookups available at the host sites.  Reimbursement for generator fuel will be provided up to 20 gallons per month.  Reimbursement for propane fuel for heating and cooking will be provided up to 15 gallons per month.  Actual commuting expenses will be covered.  Hosts will be responsible for submitting odometer reading, beginning/ending odometer reading, fuel receipts, make/model/year of vehicle, and a route map.
