About this Opportunity
Availability: 5/1/2020-11/1/2020
Suitability: Adults, Seniors
Campground Description: Grayback Campground (2000’ elevation) is located 11 miles from Cave Junction, OR and 8 miles from Oregon Caves National Monument. This beautiful forested campground has 39 first-come, first-served tent sites. It also has a day use area with picnic tables, amphitheater, and fire rings. Behind the campground is a creek and a 1 mile loop trail.
Responsibilities: Campground hosts represent the US Forest Service and are often the first contact person that visitors encounter on their vacation. As such campground hosts must be neat, professional, and friendly. Host(s) will assist visitors in registering for their campsite, inform visitors of campground rules and regulations, help visitors with any problems that may arise, record campground use statistics, and perform minor maintenance to keep the campground and its restroom facilities clean and safe. Across the street from Grayback Campground is Chinquapin Campground. It has one large group site available by reservation only. Campground hosts also help maintain the facilities at this group site.
Host(s) volunteer approximately 30 hours per week, primarily over holidays and weekends. There are two host sites available at this campground. Ideally, both positions will be filled and hosts will coordinate their schedules to best serve the campground and its visitors. Host(s) should be comfortable being outside in all kinds of weather. They should also be physically capable of shoveling, raking, cleaning fire pits, and walking a couple miles a day.
