About this Opportunity
This announcement will serve dual position duties as the campground host(s) and visitor use assistant(s) at our welcome station.
ORCA Campground Host Job Description
General Duties
The campground host supports the campground operation and provides a valuable point of contact for visitors in the campground. Often times there will only be one Ranger on duty. You will be contacted by radio if you are needed while you are out in the campground. We ask that your radio is turned on when you are in the campground. It is important that the campground host be knowledgeable about the park including but not limited to: the visitor center, trails, evening programs, and guided hikes etc. Do not collect money. Send the visitor to the fee station/Iron ranger. While on duty and in uniform, you are an official representative of the National Park Service. It is very important that you speak and act courteously and professionally. Do not put yourself in a situation that is beyond the scope of your duties as a campground host. Remember that your job is enlightenment, not enforcement.
ORCA Visitor Use Assistant Job Description
General Duties
The primary duties in this position are to 1) screen visitors who plan to tour Oregon Caves for clothing, footwear, or gear that have been used in other caves, mine, or bat hibernation sites; 2) educate visitors about White-Nose Syndrome, a deadly fungal disease affecting bats in the eastern U.S. and Canada; and 3) deliver brief safety messages regarding the physical demands of the cave tour. The volunteer will also communicate by phone or radio with park staff and the Oregon Caves Visitor Center front desk, and provide information to visitors about hiking trails, the Chateau lodge, and the local area.
