Interpretation and Visitor Services

Tonto National Monument is looking for motivated, enthusiastic individuals with a passion for the outdoors, history, and sharing knowledge to volunteer with us for the Summer 2019 season. Tonto National Monument protects two 14th century Salado cliff dwellings. While most known for its cliff dwellings and prehistoric culture, Tonto is also rich in wildlife, botany, geology, pioneer history, and sweeping views of the Sonoran Desert landscape.

Duties: 

• Hike to and staff Lower Cliff Dwelling (steep 0.5 mile trail with 350 ft. elevation gain)
• Provide informal interpretation and orientation information to visitors
• Develop formal and informal interpretive programs
• Assist park rangers with various projects including photography, publication development, community outreach, and digital media. 

Area Information:
Tonto National Monument overlooks the Tonto Basin in southeastern Arizona. Tonto National Forest and Roosevelt Lake Recreation Area are adjacent to the Monument. Full shopping facilities are available in Globe (27 miles) and Payson (50 miles).
