About this Opportunity
The Flagstaff Area National Monuments (Walnut Canyon, Sunset Crater Volcano, and Wupatki) are seeking volunteers like you! Volunteers greet visitors, answer questions and provide orientation to the Monuments and surrounding area in Visitor Centers and in the parks as well. Volunteers present informal interpretation and rove trails, and those interested can also develop formal interpretive programs. Work may entail also operating a cash register for nonprofit bookstore sales. Ample training will be provided with an orientation and time to get to know the Monuments. This position may require long periods of standing, various levels of walking/hiking, and raising and lowering the flag daily. For volunteers seeking housing or an RV space, a minimum of 3 months is required (but 6 months is preferred). Most shifts are 8 hours long. Reliable personal transportation and a valid drivers license are also required. Please include whether or not you have a federal background check in place and two references (with phone numbers) in section 19 of the application. References should be unrelated to you and able to speak about your ability and/or aptitude for the position. Also, couples must complete applications for EACH person. For more information call Richard Ullmann at 928-526-1157 ext 228 or email [email protected].

Flagstaff is on the Colorado Plateau and the surrounding desert, mountains, and landscapes offer a wide range of world-class recreational opportunities. Wupatki is about 35 miles northeast (45 minute drive) of Flagstaff, with Walnut Canyon about 8 miles east and Sunset Crater Volcano about 8 miles northeast of Flagstaff. Summers in Flagstaff are warm with temperatures in the 80s and frequent monsoon thunderstorms. Winters are cold, with low temperatures near zero and snow averaging around 90 inches.
