National Laundry Day is Coming Soon!

The first commercial laundromat opened in Oakland, California in 1849! If you were blind, how would you use your washer and dryer? Services for the Blind would come to you home and teach you tactile methods for finding the correct settings. Raised tactile dots in high contrast colors would be put on the machine to identify the commonly used settings!

You can learn a lot about how people who are blind do things differently by becoming a volunteer. It's easy. If you can shop, drive, read, sort mail or be a good friend, this is just perfect for you!

Requirements to be a great volunteer include:

• a desire to help others;
• a pleasant demeanor;
• a good reading/speaking voice;
• average reading skills;
• organizational or planning abilities;
• a good driving record;
• a clear criminal history;
• two references
• access to a car with proof of insurance;
• a minimum of $50/100k liability and $5,000 of property damage coverage.
