About this Opportunity
Docent volunteers work during open ship days, dockside events, and cruises. They provide tours of the ship, provide event assistance, and sometimes narrate cruises. Docents also give talks about the ship and local maritime history for community groups. This position requires training onboard the ship and the study of important historical events and documents that relate to the V5.
Schedule: Open ship days are held 12 to 5 pm in the winter and 10 am to 3 pm in the summer. Cruises are typically at night on weekends.
Skills Required: Good people skills. Love of history. No boating/ship-handling experience is needed!
Hours worked on the ship count towards sea service hours for U.S. Coast Guard licensing.
The Steamer Virginia V Foundation volunteers will receive the following benefits once active:
- Complimentary tickets to public events for volunteers and their families/friends, depending on availability
- Free membership to the foundation which includes a discount on charters
- V5 shirt and hat
