About this Opportunity

Make a Difference When It Matters Most

When disaster strikes, you can be the helping hand that provides safety, comfort, and hope to those affected. Join the American Red Cross as a Disaster Sheltering Responder and play a vital role in supporting individuals and families during some of their most challenging moments.

What You’ll Do:

As part of our Disaster Cycle Services (DCS) team, you’ll help operate Red Cross shelters before, during, and after disasters. You’ll ensure that every client feels safe, supported, and cared for by helping with:

    • Welcoming and registering shelter residents
    • Assisting in dormitory and feeding areas
    • Providing information and resources
    • Supporting supply and logistical needs
    • Offering compassionate customer service to all clients

Every task you complete makes a direct impact — helping families find comfort, food, and shelter when they need it most.

What You’ll Gain:

    • Hands-on experience in emergency response
    • Teamwork and leadership skills
    • The reward of knowing you’ve helped others in their greatest time of need
    • Training and ongoing support from the Red Cross

What We’re Looking For:

    • A compassionate, flexible, and reliable team player
    • Comfortable working in fast-changing environments
    • Able to volunteer in person in a Red Cross shelter
  • Willing to complete 5 hours of online self-paced training
    • Must be 18 or older (16+ may serve in limited capacities)
    • Able to sign up for 4-, 8-, or 12-hour shifts when disasters occur

A background check is required. A driver’s license is only needed for deployments outside your local area.

Join our mission of helping people in their time of greatest need.

Step forward, lend your heart, and be the reason someone finds hope after disaster.
