The First Congregational Church of Revere Food Pantry is an emergency food provider for food insecure families in our community. We have been serving Revere and the surrounding area for the past 36 years. During the year, we serve about 900 families. We typically unload an average of 15,000 lbs of food throughout the week that we receive from the Greater Boston Food Bank.
As a Food Distribution Volunteer, you will assist with distribution at the Food Pantry on Wednesdays.
This is an in-person role averaging 2-4 hours per shift. Shifts are: Wednesdays 4-6 pm and/or 6-8 pm.
Shift 4-6 pm is when volunteers pack perishable food items into bags (around 200) and send bins with bags up with a mechanical lift. Some items re bagged separately. Setting up the distribution room is also done.
Shift 6-8 pm is when clients arrive to receive bagged food. Volunteers are needed to register clients on iPads, direct traffic, hand out bags of food and help clients out of the church as needed.
Volunteers who speak other languages is a plus; especially Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese and Creole-Haitian.
