About this Opportunity

Basic volunteer duties involved with this assignment:

  • Once a month, 100 meals are provided to homeless camps and the streets of Summit County. The head chef is in charge of meal plans but she needs help to prepare meals/desserts and package items.
  • This is done on the 3rd of 4th Sunday of each month. Volunteers meet at Friends in Tents at 10:30 am to help prepare for the Boots on the Ground runs to the camps. This is done in the basement of the building and is usually completed by 12pm.
  • Volunteers take turns preparing the home-cooked desserts for the runs. Friends in Tents prides themselves on sharing homecooked hot meals in the camps and on the streets.
  • Basic volunteer qualifications involved with this assignment:

    Someone who enjoys cooking and baking! Someone who can go up and down steps in the building.

    Who will be served by this assignment?

    Friends living in tents or on the streets. Homeless friends show up at the building on these days to eat in the parking lot. There are no tables or space to eat inside.

    What is the anticipated benefit of this volunteer service to those receiving the service?

    Friends living in tents or on the streets will benefit and love having the hot meal shared with them.

    What specific skills will the volunteer need?

    Volunteer will need to be able to go up and down stairs and help carry containers of food in and out of the building.
