About this Opportunity
Norfolk County Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) invites volunteers to assist in elementary school classrooms. Volunteers must be 55+ years of age to participate in this special intergenerational school volunteer program.
RSVP volunteers assist teachers with one-on-one and small group support for children who would benefit from extra attention, typically in reading or math. Other volunteer activities such as arts and crafts, music, science and library support may also be available in some schools.
You don’t need previous teaching experience to help. We’re looking for caring adults from a range of backgrounds, life experiences and expertise, who want to help make a difference in the lives of children. Our role is to help match your interests and skills with a suitable and supportive classroom opportunity. School volunteers are asked to commit to 1 - 1.5 hours per week through the end of the school year. Training is provided.
Norfolk County RSVP currently has Pre-K through 5th grade elementary school volunteer opportunities in Dedham, Norwood, Walpole, Stoughton and Weymouth.
A CORI background check and interview with one of the RSVP staff is required for all prospective school volunteers. Participation in two, 2.5-hour, orientation and training sessions are expected for all new school volunteers to help facilitate a smooth transition into the classroom.
Norfolk County RSVP is funded by the Norfolk County Commissioners and a federal grant from AmeriCorps Seniors to encourage and support community service and volunteerism at a national and local level.
