About this Opportunity
MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE - BECOME A MENTOR WITH BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF CENTRAL TEXAS!
At Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas, we believe in the incredible potential of every child - and we’re inviting you to be part of something life-changing.
Our mission is to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. By volunteering as a mentor - a "Big" - you have the chance to build a meaningful connection with a young person ("Little") and help them grow, thrive, and realize their full potential.
What Does a Big Do?
As a Big, you'll be matched with a child between the ages of 6-16. Together, you’ll spend time out in the community doing things you both enjoy - whether it’s grabbing a snack, exploring a park, playing basketball, or just talking about life. Bigs and Littles typically meet 2-4 times a month, and those consistent meetups make a lasting impact.
By simply showing up, you’ll:
- Offer support and encouragement through life’s challenges
- Introduce your Little to new experiences and opportunities
- Help them develop confidence, skills, and goals
- Be a consistent, caring presence in their life
It’s not about being perfect - it’s about being present.
Who Can Be a Big?
We welcome mentors from all walks of life! You just need to:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Have a valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation
- Be able to commit to at least one year of mentorship
The Path to Becoming a Big:
Qualities of a Great Mentor:
- Patience
- Consistent and dependable
- Open-minded and nonjudgmental
- A good communicator and active listener
- Willing to learn, grow, and adapt
- Compassionate and understanding
Bonus: You may get matched faster if you have experience with youth, are comfortable supporting mental health or learning differences (like ADHD, anxiety, or autism), or have worked with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
One small commitment. One big impact.
