Have You Ever Wondered "How Do They Do It?"

Have you ever wondered how a person who is blind is able to run a concession stand, count their money, do their laundry, prepare their meals and generally keep track of their day to day activities while living independently? I am sure you have questions and want to learn more about this unique population of individuals. Here's your chance! If you have just a few hours every other week you can learn a little and help a lot. A fellow in Middletown is interested in someone to drive him to an appointment in Hartford and then maybe hop over to the Restaurant Depot or other Big Box stores to shop for his concession stand. The opportunity is voluntary and schedules will vary but a gas stipend is offered for this unique post.

Requirements to be a great volunteer include:

• a desire to help others;

• a pleasant demeanor;

• a good reading/speaking voice;

• average reading skills;

• organizational or planning abilities;

• a good driving record;

• a clear criminal history;

• two references

• access to a car with proof of insurance;

• a minimum of $50/100k liability and $5,000 of property damage coverage.
