About this Opportunity

The ideal intern should be interested in pursuing a career in social service nonprofit work. The Intern will serve as a "right arm" by preparing for meetings, attending meetings, supporting corporate public & media relations and corporate correspondence, budget management, personnel management, etc. AWOFINC’s Senior Leadership will devote considerable energy to transferring knowledge to the intern. The Intern will support the office of each Program Director in directing the daily operations of that initiative for the organization, community partnership, programs and services. The Intern will report to the Executive Intern - Operations, Director of Operations, Associate Director and Executive Director.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare briefings on prospective partners or agencies in advance of meetings
  • Participate in team and/or departmental meetings, take notes, summarize minutes
  • Attend meetings with funders, politicians, clergy, nonprofit leaders, and community partners
  • support general office duties such as monthly budget reconciliations, board reports, correspondence, database management, and filings
  • lead and/or support fundraising efforts for the organization
  • conduct briefings with Core Team members
  • conduct/participate in Core Team training and In-Service Days
  • monitor and update Project Management Software for assignments & projects
  • oversee website, blogs and social media sites to encourage awareness of AWOFINC events and mission
  • lead program areas in place of Program Directors when necessary
  • assist Associate Director with assignments, projects and tasks
  • look for and suggest ways to make internal operations more efficient and productive
  • work with the various ministry areas to develop outcome measures and community impact assessments
  • other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or Director of Operations

We operate three primary service areas including: (1) Parent Information and Resource Center, (2) Violence Prevention Consortium, (3) Youth Leadership and Development. At this stage in the organization’s development, we are moving out of the "frontier" stage and into operationalizing the organization. This means moving from pure vision and heart into systems, structures, and measurements. The emphasis on this internship is learning day-to-day nonprofit management and in studying the true impact of this organization on the community.

Qualifications:

  • Students pursuing or possessing a Bachelors degree or Master’s degree in Administration or related field.
  • Intern should be adept with Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Web research and be skilled at create forms, or instruments that help to track goals, outcomes, and financials.
  • Excellent oral, written, and communication/presentation skills - Comfortable talking with and interacting with others
  • Must be at least 18 years of age, have a valid driver’s license, and carry your own liability insurance.
  • Ability to work well with diverse groups of people
  • Must have active social media accounts.

This can be a remote/virtual position however, the preferred candidate will live/work in the Chicagoland area.
