About this Opportunity
Position Summary:
We are seeking compassionate, empathetic, and reliable volunteers to make regular check-in phone calls to families and caregivers of hospice patients. As a remote hospice volunteer, your primary role is to offer emotional support, a listening ear, and a caring presence through scheduled phone conversations. You will not provide medical advice or counseling, but rather serve as a comforting connection for those navigating the challenges of end-of-life care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Make scheduled check-in phone calls to families and caregivers of hospice patients
- Provide emotional support, companionship, and a listening presence
- Document the outcomes of each call according to hospice protocols
- Report any concerns or urgent issues to the hospice care team
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and hospice policies
- Participate in initial training and periodic volunteer meetings or check-ins
Qualifications:
- Strong communication and active listening skills
- Compassionate, patient, and nonjudgmental demeanor
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
- Comfortable speaking on the phone with individuals who may be grieving or under stress
- Reliable access to a phone and a quiet, private space for making calls
- Basic computer skills for logging calls and communication
