About this Opportunity
The Peace Economy Project is seeking passionate and motivated Advocacy and Outreach Volunteers to help raise awareness and increase participation in the Valentine’s Day Vigil Against Gun Violence. Volunteers in this role will focus on community engagement, spreading the word, and promoting the event through direct outreach, phone banking, and social media efforts. This role is ideal for individuals who are dedicated to social justice and want to inspire others to take action.
Responsibilities:
- Community Outreach:
- Distribute flyers, posters, and informational materials to local businesses, schools, and community centers.
- Engage with local organizations, advocacy groups, and faith-based groups to build partnerships and encourage participation.
- Phone and Email Campaigns:
- Contact supporters, volunteers, and community leaders to invite them to the event.
- Follow up with RSVPs and confirm attendance.
- Social Media Promotion:
- Share event details across social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and BlueSky.
- Post advocacy-related content leading up to the event to increase awareness.
- Engage with followers by answering questions and encouraging participation.
- Event Preparation Support:
- Recruit additional volunteers for day-of event roles.
- Help with pre-event logistics, such as assembling outreach kits and mailing invitations.
- Advocacy Efforts:
- Educate attendees about gun violence prevention and promote ongoing campaigns.
- Encourage participants to sign petitions, write letters to policymakers, and pledge support for advocacy initiatives.
Requirements:
- Strong passion for social justice, advocacy, and community organizing.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Basic social media skills (posting and sharing content).
- Reliable, organized, and self-motivated.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in grassroots organizing, community outreach, or advocacy (not required).
- Ability to work flexible hours leading up to the event.
- Multilingual skills are a plus but not required.
