About this Opportunity

  • This is an unpaid volunteer opportunity.
  • Technology Associates are expected to put in a minimum of 5 hours per week and be responsive to emails within 36 hours.
  • STW(tm) welcomes volunteers who are seeking skill-based volunteering opportunity. STW(tm) shall provide "letter of recommendation" professionals who demonstrate outstanding contribution for professional references.

SUMMARY:

Work with different teams (Technology, Marketing, Fundraising, Web Analysts) to define and prioritize features needed to create great user experiences.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and conduct small and medium scale usability tests and other UX research activities to improve the STW(tm) website.
  • Collaborate with developers to ensure design matches your vision.
  • Contribute to user experience best practices and act as an experienced evangelist to the organization.
  • Keep up-to-date with and display knowledge of market trends and best practices.
  • Work with different teams (IT, Marketing, Fundraising, Web Analysts) to define and prioritize features needed to create great user experiences.
  • Report to Project Leader for the given project team.
  • Attend monthly Technology group meeting.
  • Complete the Timesheet at least on a weekly minimum basis.

EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:

  • BA/BS or a student currently enrolled in a degree in Interaction Design, HCI, Graphic Design, or related field.
  • Minimal 0.5 year of professional experience in interaction design/user experience design (including internship).
  • Experience in UX Research techniques such as usability testing, competitive evaluation, and personas (include experience in contextual inquiry, heuristic evaluation, and surveys) Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Must be extremely self-motivated, dedicated, detail-oriented, and organized.
  • Be able to articulate your ideas to designers, and developers, both verbally or in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and details simultaneously.
  • Requires self-direction, tact, diplomacy and a clear, courteous and professional manner when dealing with the public.
  • Must demonstrate effective oral communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with staff inside and outside of the department.
  • Associates degree completed or equivalent work experience (6 months to 1-year full time paid corporate/non - profit work experience).
