Health Insurance Specialist - Volunteer Opportunity:

Organization: HHP

Location: Remote/Flexible

Time Commitment: ~5 hours per month

Role Overview

Assist patient advocates and patients with navigating complex health insurance issues, directly contributing to HHP's mission of improved health literacy. This role is perfect for a professional looking to give back their specialized knowledge on a flexible schedule.

This is an entirely volunteer, remote-only position with flexible hours, giving preference to U.S.-based candidates.

Duties (Reporting to the Program Director/Patient Advocate Lead)

  • Consultation: Consult on new and developing patient advocacy programming involving insurance.
  • Direct Support: Assist patient advocates in communicating information on insurance enrollment, maintenance, and usage to patients.
  • Workshops: Remotely join monthly workshops as a resource for patients navigating medical insurance conundrums.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Worked experience in health insurance.
  • Strong knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid.
  • Strong communications skills.

Preferred:

  • Valid U.S. health insurance license (California license preferred).

Skills

  • Skill in navigating Medicare, Medicaid, and private health insurance.
  • Understanding of basic health insurance billing and plan usage.

Conditions of Volunteer Acceptance

  • Commitment: We ask for a commitment of ~5 hours per month for at least one year to ensure continuity of care and program impact. Flexibility is available.
  • Must track hours/tasks using HHP's required tools (Clockify/Trello).
