About this Opportunity

The Journalism & Investigative Research Fellow will report on military spending, war profiteering, and the social and economic consequences of militarization. This role involves investigative journalism, data research, and storytelling to uncover the realities of U.S. military policy and its impact on communities at home and abroad.

This fellowship is ideal for graduate students, recent graduates, or upper-level undergraduates with experience in journalism, investigative reporting, public policy research, or human rights documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

Investigate military spending trends, including defense budgets, contractor influence, and lobbying efforts.

Research and report on conflicts, military interventions, and human rights abuses.

Analyze government documents, reports, and legislation related to U.S. military policy.

Conduct interviews with experts, activists, and impacted communities.

Write compelling investigative articles, op-eds, and blog posts to raise public awareness.

Assist in Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests to uncover hidden details about military spending and policies.

Contribute to PEP’s media presence by drafting press releases and social media content.

Work with the PEP team to develop multimedia content (podcasts, video storytelling, infographics).

Preferred Qualifications:

Background in journalism, communications, political science, public policy, or a related field.

✔ Experience with investigative research, reporting, or long-form journalism.

✔ Strong writing and storytelling skills with the ability to translate complex topics into accessible articles.

✔ Passion for peace, human rights, and exposing the true costs of war.

✔ Familiarity with public records, data analysis, or FOIA requests is a plus.

✔ Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced research environment.
