About this Opportunity
Program Summary: 2Life is looking for a volunteer to teach a series of Zumba classes for residents at Shirley Meadows! For older adults, exercise is an essential activity that has a profound impact on the quality of their life, and Zumba offers a fun and energetic way to improve cardiovascular health, promoting strength and flexibility. The goal is to improve aerobic capacity, flexibility, and muscle strength. For frail residents, there should be a modified version of the exercises that allows for seated participants whenever possible.
Location: 27 Hospital Rd Devens, MA 01434
Key responsibilities:
- Develop and teach a Zumba class routine.
- Adapt classes based on residents' ability
- Take attendance
- Assist residents with proper form
Impact Goal: Physical activity is one of the most important things 2Life residents can do for their health. It helps improve strength and balance to keep doing your day-to-day activities, and prevents or delays diseases. For many, fitness activities and health workshops are also opportunities to reduce social isolation.
Qualifications:
- Must have some background in fitness
- Must be a certified Zumba instructor
- Comfortable working with older adults
- Sociable and engaging
- Bilingual in Russian, Mandarin, or Cantonese strongly preferred, but not required
Schedule/Time Commitment: 1-2 hours/week during weekday afternoons, between 1pm-5pm. Volunteers must commit to at least 3 months and keep a regular schedule.
