Addiction Medicine Consultant - Volunteer Opportunity:

Location: Remote/Flexible
Time Commitment: ~5 hours per month
Role Overview
The Addiction Medicine Consultant will provide specialized subject matter expertise, assisting our program team in developing advocacy and support pathways for patients with substance use issues. This role directly supports HHP’s mission of holistic health literacy by ensuring culturally competent care for a highly vulnerable population.
This is an entirely volunteer, remote-only position with flexible hours, giving preference to U.S.-based candidates.
Duties (Reporting to the Program Director)
- Program Consulting: Consult on and contribute to developing non-profit programs designed to improve the experience of patients with addiction problems navigating the U.S. healthcare system.
- Resource Vetting: Help vet and curate resources and referrals related to addiction recovery programs and mental health services.
Qualifications
Required:
- Worked experience in addiction medicine, behavioral health, or a related field (e.g., Physician, Psychiatrist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Certified Addiction Specialist).
- Strong communications skills.
Skills
- Intimate knowledge of addiction medicine principles, addiction recovery programs, harm reduction strategies, and relevant healthcare pathways.
- Understanding of the social and systemic barriers to care faced by individuals with substance use disorders.
Conditions of Volunteer Acceptance
- Commitment: We ask for a commitment of ~5 hours per month for at least six months to ensure continuity of consultation. Flexibility is available.
- Must track hours/tasks using HHP's required tools (Clockify/Trello).
