About this Opportunity

Dyslexia Tutoring Program removes barriers to literacy through free one-on-one tutoring, professional assessments, and other services for children and adults with dyslexia or language based learning differences in greater Baltimore. Since 1985, we have helped thousands of individuals from strategically under invested communities learn to read and unlock their potential. All services are provided free of charge - so everyone can learn to read!

Dyslexia Tutoring Program (DTP) is holding a hybrid Orton Gillingham tutor training course starting December 3rd, 2025. Classes meet twice per week from 12/03/2025 through 01/24/2026.

WHEN & WHERE:

  • Wednesdays via Zoom from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Zoom link will be provided prior to first class.
  • Saturdays in person from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm at The Rotunda, 711 W. 40th Street, Suite 216, Baltimore, MD 21211. Parking is available.

Training is free in return for your commitment to tutor a student in our program for 60 hours. This 30 hour, Level I Orton Gillingham course teaches you the structured, multisensory literacy skills you need to tutor a student with a dyslexic learning style and help them learn to read. DTP provides all materials and supplies and you receive ongoing support through mentoring, workshops, and dedicated staff to help you and your student succeed!

Can't make this course? Trainings are held year round! You can check out our website at https://dtpnow.org/upcoming-training-courses/ or we're happy to keep you updated via email. We have a variety of formats (in person, hybrid, all virtual) to fit your schedule.

Come help our students gain one of the most basic and important life skills they'll ever learn - the ability to read.

DTP tutors come from all walks of life and range in age from college students to retirees, but we do have a few basic requirements:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong command of spoken and written English
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Complete 30 hours of Orton Gillingham training
  • Commit to 60 hours of tutoring for DTP
