Role Overview

We are looking for a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Nonprofit Accountant & Tax Volunteer to help us keep our financial records organized, compliant, and up-to-date. This is a crucial support role ideal for someone with experience in nonprofit accounting and tax compliance who is interested in donating a small amount of time to a meaningful cause.

Key Responsibilities
  • Initial Setup:

    • Assist with establishing or reviewing our accounting/bookkeeping system

    • Set up or optimize financial tracking tools (e.g., QuickBooks, Excel, etc.)

  • Ongoing Maintenance (Quarterly):

    • Allocate approximately 1 hour every 3 months to:

      • Review and maintain financial records

      • Ensure books are accurate and up to date

      • Advise on basic compliance and tax-related needs

      • Provide guidance for annual 990 or 990-N tax filings

  • Support & Advisory:

    • Advise on best practices for nonprofit financial health and reporting

    • Help ensure compliance with IRS and Texas nonprofit regulations

Qualifications
  • Experience with nonprofit accounting or tax preparation (especially for 501(c)(3) organizations)

  • Understanding of IRS nonprofit compliance, including 990/990-N filing

  • Proficiency in bookkeeping software or spreadsheets (e.g., QuickBooks, Excel, etc.)

  • Strong organizational and communication skills

  • CPA, EA, or other financial certifications (preferred but not required)
