Opportunities for Community Service:

We have a variety of tasks that can help you meet your hour requirements, including:

  • Shelter Cleaning & Maintenance:
    • Sanitizing common areas, bathrooms, and dormitories.
    • Laundry duty (washing, folding, and organizing linens and donated clothing).
    • Organizing storage areas and supplies.
    • Light outdoor maintenance (sweeping, tidying common outdoor spaces).
  • Donation Processing:
    • Sorting and organizing donated clothing, toiletries, and household items.
    • Stocking our pantry and supply closets.
  • Kitchen Support:
    • Assisting with meal preparation (chopping vegetables, setting up meal lines).
    • Washing dishes and cleaning kitchen areas after meals.
  • General Support:
    • Assisting staff with various administrative tasks as needed.

Requirements for Court-Ordered Community Service:

  • Initial Interview: All prospective community service volunteers must complete an initial interview with our Volunteer Coordinator to discuss the nature of the service, your hours requirement, and our policies.
  • Background Check: A background check is required for all volunteers
  • Court Documentation: You must provide official documentation from the court or probation officer outlining your community service requirements.
  • Commitment to Our Mission: We expect all volunteers to treat our residents and staff with respect, empathy, and dignity.
  • Reliability: Consistency and punctuality are crucial for us to effectively manage our operations and support our residents.

You must be 18 years old to complete court-ordered community service at the Brisben Center.
