This wildfire season, turn your compassion into action when you volunteer with the American Red Cross. Discover the volunteer role that’s right for you: we are actively recruiting for these critical volunteer roles:
Shelter Team Member
Shelter Volunteers help to set up and staff Red Cross shelters. Volunteers need to be at least 18 years old and able to serve in at least one of these three capacities:
- Three days at a time (to help get a local shelter up and running)
- Seven days at a time to deploy somewhere in the Cascades Region (Oregon and SW Washington).
- Two weeks in a row to deploy outside the Cascades Region (for 12-hour shifts)
Disaster Action Team (DAT) Member
Provide hope to people who have been impacted by a home fire or flood. Work alongside first responders and deliver comfort and supplies to community members. Volunteers must be at least18 years old and able to commit to four on-call six-hour shifts a month.
Duty Officer/Dispatcher
Duty Officers ensures timely activation and monitoring of the regional Disaster Action Team (DAT) responses. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, able to work from home (virtually) and able to commit to four on-call six-hour shifts a month.
Disaster Health Services (DHS) Team Member
Use your professional skills as a licensed healthcare provider to deliver hands on care and education to shelter residents. Free online DHS training will be provided and can count towards nursing continuing education units. Requires a 10-day deployment (which has two more travel days) at least once a year or ability to commit to two regional shifts monthly (these shifts are generally 4-6 hours).
