About this Opportunity
Three local residents who are legally blind are interested in getting out into the community, having coffee, attending outdoor concerts or library programs, shopping or other events around town. They cannot drive due to legal blindness which leaves them socially isolated. If you have an hour or two per week for either of them (2 gents one lady) it would be greatly appreciated. Don't worry, you don't have to do it all, they have access to para transit and funds of their own, they just need a companion or social buddy and your connection will be one-to-one.
Requirements to be a great volunteer include:
a desire to help others;
a pleasant demeanor;
a good reading/speaking voice;
average reading skills;
organizational or planning abilities;
a good driving record;
a clear criminal history;
two references
access to a car with proof of insurance;
a minimum of $50/100k liability and $5,000 of property damage coverage.
